Test Flight

Description

Alternative title: Trepidation

Mostly because I really like that word and it also applies.

Prepare yourselves for a "mini" story!

Paradigm stared down into the depths of the streets below her perch high upon the rooftops with much trepidation. No. Paradigm didn't feel trepidation. That was all Billie. But Billie couldn't be seen on Gotham's rooftops in the middle of the night with technology eerily similar to that of a Wayne Tech product. Paradigm could. And so she donned her basic outfit and a few essentials. Tonight was just a test run-a test flight rather-there was no need to take her entire arsenal, and the fewer things she carried the less to possibly get damaged should this "memory cloth" fail. At least, she was pretty sure that's what it was called. It didn't much matter, as long as it took on it's rigid, glider shape once she shocked it with her gloves. It had better with the amount of trouble she went through to acquire it.

Paradigm had brought her grapple gun just in case anyway, one of her own creation. If the fabric didn't work, she would definitely want-and quite frankly need-a plan B, and she'd used the gun enough to trust in it's various life saving abilities. It even functioned as a pretty good stabber when she needed to poke a few holes in some thugs, and rested currently in a loop off her belt. As always, her fake phaser gun sat in it's holster on the opposite side should she have the misfortune of running into anyone on her maiden voyage.

Assuming she ever started it.

Billie glanced down over the edge again. It was a very long way down, but this was the only way to test it, and having an easily collapsible glider would be a very useful tool. She had already done the math the a week prior, carefully calculating her test run down to every last variable including the forecast, and double and triple and quadruple checked the numbers, as one should when they're about to jump off a skyscraper for the first time using some foreign material for something likely other than it's intended purpose.

"C'mon Billie, you've always wanted to fly, are you really going to pass this up?" She rolled her eyes behind the lenses of her goggles, frustrated with her reasonable fear, and grabbed the dark fabric in either hand, holding it slack behind her as she stepped up onto the roof's ledge. With the night vision filter of her goggles, she could easily make out her targeted landing spot; the rooftop of an office building a few stories shorter than the one she stood on and at a gentle slope for less impact. Nothing terribly difficult. Nothing she needed to worry any further about; she had back up plans if need be.

Taking in a cool breath of air, Paradigm held the fabric taunt behind her back, arms outstretched to either side. She waited a moment longer before charging the material with the electrical current that coursed through her gloves, clenching her hands tight around the edges she held as the fabric suddenly snapped into shape. And without a second moment’s pause, leapt from the rooftop.

It was a remarkable feeling, terrifying at first, but quickly replaced with amazement and excitement as she soared high over the street, a gentle breeze catching in the material, keeping her aloft only slightly longer than planned. She came to a stop on the roof, stumbling
as she landed in the gravel she hadn’t taken note of earlier and stopping the current to the fabric as she did, it’s rigidity ceasing almost immediately. Billie didn’t bother dusting herself off as she scrambled back upright, running to the edge of the roof and leaning over the side to the street below.

It worked.

A mad grin spread across her face followed by a fit of laughter and a few triumphant “WOO"s as she punched the air. The success of this test only opened more doors in her mind, more uses and applications began flooding into her brain as she pranced back to her landing point, taking down the data then kicking the disturbed rocks back into place as her
thoughts ran wild.

Nothing could ruin this night.

Nothing.

So here we have another Billie/Paradigm picture that wasn't supposed to take this long or be that "complicated." It really only started off as a writing, but demanded a picture be drawn for it. So like the meat puppet I am, I stopped working on a piece I owe to make this. (Which I still feel pretty guilty about)

Despite that gnawing feeling, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I'm still definitely not the best at backgrounding, but I mostly like it.
I do greatly dig that little water tower though c:
Her shirt too, I like it.

I feel the written portion already explains what's going on, and to repeat that here would just be repeatative, but if you have any questions feel free to ask, and I'll ramble off in an attempt to answer it. =P

Now we go back to work on the pieces I owe!

Edit: Okay so this was scheduled to be automatically submitted at 6pm OtzTime. And that didn't work apparently :hmm: Sooo...yeah. *shrugs*
